  1. Approval of Minutes
    1. January 10, 2020 – Minutes were adopted by unanimous consent.

Information/Discussion Items

  1. CVC-OEI- The number of classes that are CVC-OEI Certified should be around 27-28 courses, by Fall 2020. There are 177 online sections being taught this Spring 2020. For us to reach the CVC-OEI desired 20%, we would need about 35 courses. We are close to the target goal and timeline.

Comments:

-If we share shells of the approved shells, we may be able to help others go through the process.

What is the average time it takes to go through the course approval process? Answer: about 3 months.

-Kelly, my course is taking a bit long to go through the process.

-Joy, have any of these courses raised our FTE’s for these courses? Answer: This feature is in discussion and may be available soon.

-Kelly, 9 courses are badged, but how many of them are being offered this spring? How many of the enrollments are non-TC students?

-Geoffrey, the CVC-OEI is working on building a rubric that will make it easier to align a course before submission.

-Adam, Nicole, Candace, Juana, Amar, and Nicole met for an initial POCR team meet. We plan to review 3 courses included in the grant to align a course to the CVC-OEI guidelines. We will review them and submit them in hopes to be approved as a local POCR campus.

-Amar, when we get a new DE Director, who will be onboarding them? Answer: that will be Leslie’s responsibility, but Adam will help.

  1. DE Accessibility Plan

Adam, I have put together the first draft. There have been edits since the last time we saw it. Specifically, for full-time faculty, I added the 508 committee to plan, I also added page 6, the option 3: is for new adjunct hires that will be using a premade shell. This way we address adjunct faculty as well as full-time.

Comments:

How do we keep track of faculty being trained on accessibility, and that they submitted the accessibility form?

-Kelly, It’s the course, not the faculty. The course is what causes the lawsuit.

-Amar, I have an issue with option 2.

-Geoffrey, 55208 updated regs state that before a faculty can teach online, they need to be trained.

-Amar, when will new naming regulations be adopted? Answer, it left DETAC and has gone to TTAC, then will be going to CCCCC, after this they can go to the BOG for approval, this may still be a lengthy process.

-Leslie, We want to make sure we name them right, so we’ll wait for approval. We will use the state-wide naming convention.

-Chris C., Does UDOIT fix our accessibility issue?

-Adam, It helped me.

-Joy, I like it. There were a lot of errors, but I would sit and fix 10 at a time.

-Kelly, it helps, but can be overwhelming.

-Geoffrey, a new change to the CVC-OEI rubric is that section D (accessibility) is going to be spread out through sections A-C instead of being a separate section.

-Joy, Notifications going to students need to be made accessible for students when faculty are asked to share them. Sometimes departments ask us to share resources with students but they’re not always accessible documents. Can they be marked, or tagged that they are accessible so we know when we get them, that they are ok to share?

-Chris, Does Canvas know that copying a course messes with accessibility? I’ve made accessibility edits, and after a copy, they don’t hold.

-Geoffrey, Course materials should also be accessible, such as 3rd party tools like Pearson etc.

-Steven, Using a template helped me. I got zero errors from my UDOIT scan.

-Adam, So, I’m hearing we should change the wording on option 3?

-Kelly, I don’t love it but I will be ok with it.

-Geoffrey, This will need to go to bargaining before used.

-Joy, we need to define what it means to be accessible.

-Adam, In the accessibility committee, we will ask for a definition.

Meeting adjourned.
