Faculty Professional Development Committee Minutes

February 10, 2021

 

Members Present:

  • Ruby Payne, Tina Mendoza, Wendy Berry, Chris Taylor, Leslie Minor, Mariza Martinez, and Julian Martinez

Finalize May Inservice Schedule (May 24-26, 2021)

Ruby reported the ideas that had been sent to her to date. They include the DEI; LinkedIn Learning Pilot for faculty to use content in their Canvas shells; Cultivate Greater Joy/Sustain Your Self-Care similar to last years’ SISC mindfulness/wellness trainings track and NISOD trainings; and Taking Meeting Minutes.

May inservice will be offered online and Leslie agreed she would like to see two different tracks, similar to last May. After discussion it was agreed one track will focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion where the hope is that faculty could participate in a live event or also possibly view a variety of webinars that have been archived.  Jessica is working on the live event and Ruby will reach out for more details.

The other track would be a combination of other inservice topics which may include webinars from NISOD, AS Professional Development College, SISC, or Instructure/Canvas possible Canvas Online Integration Best Practices. Ruby will reach out to see if there is an interest in Debra, Jennifer, and Terri for May or if this could be a topic for August.  Ruby will check for online training webinar for Taking Meeting Minutes.

Lastly, the group reflected on January In-Service Schedule (Jan. 7-15, 2021) what worked/what didn’t. Topics included the Daily Snapshots, the lack of coordination with HR (adding/moving/canceling), and with recording attendance (zoom recordings/electronic sheets).

Other 

Tina asked about the topic of vaccine education, “Why get the vaccine?” for students and faculty with the interest of getting the word out.  The group felt this topic would be best served in a Town Hall. Ruby will bring it up with Deb.  Lastly to clearly communicate the need for presenters to create their own link for the trainings and provide it for the inservice calendar.
