Faculty Professional Development Committee Minutes

 

October 13, 2021

  • Ruby Payne, Diane Jones, Tina Mendoza, Leslie Minor, Chris Taylor, Mariza Martinez, John Eigenauer, and Wendy Berry

Information/Discussion Items

  • Based on the discussion and topics suggested at the September meeting, Diane looked at free resources that are available for professional development to build the January Inservice Schedule. Some of the topics are: Learn How to Create a Liquid Syllabus, New Quizzes in Canvas, Sexual Harassment Training, One Drive Quick Tips, What Our Students Need Most: The 7 Fundamental Conditions of Learning, Improving Curriculum to Facilitate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, What Everyone Ought to Know About Professor Flexibility, Philosophy, and Student Completion and Completion. These webinars are offered by NISOD, Canvas, CCC online and California Community College Vision Resource Center and are all free.

 

  • We are still considering the possibility that all sessions on the schedule be held on Zoom. (Pending current pandemic status). For now, we will look for rooms since it is easier to have the rooms scheduled and then not have to use them than trying to schedule them later.

 

  • Tina will be working on an outline for the SLO day and will get back to the committee by the next meeting. She asked that Faculty Association be moved from SLO day to give faculty a break. She will ask Leslie if SLO online trainings/conferences can also count for flex time.

 

  • Diane will ask Dr. Bell, if he still needs some of the meetings in the January Inservice.

 

Other:

  • “Lunch and Learn” Topic for October & November:
    • FOCUS will be on DSPS (October is disabilities awareness month). Leslie will be sending out the information for those via email. Leslie also confirmed that if faculty were not able to attend the Lunch and Learn that the recordings will be available and faculty can still get flex time.
  • “Lunch and Learn” moving forward-
    • Trainings will be recorded and posted into a Canvas Shell
      • Those that cannot attend can add to the discussion board for credit.
      • Flex Time is available
