  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: From the March 14, 2016 Curriculum & General Education meeting

On a motion by K. Bandy, seconded by G. Golling, and unanimously carried, the Curriculum & General Education minutes were approved.

 

  1. CONSENT ITEMS:

Course Revisions:

 

  1. GEOL     1501       Historical Geology
  2. MATH   2100       Analytic Geometry and Calculus I
  3. MATH   2120       Analytic Geometry and Calculus II

 

Distance Learning Request:

 

  1. ENGL     2100       American Literature I

 

The distance learning request was pulled from the consent agenda.

On a motion by D. Bogle, seconded by K. Bandy and unanimously carried, the consent agenda items were approved to move forward to the May 11, 2016 District Board meeting.

 

Discussion was had regarding the distance learning request form. It was noted that the form doesn’t include regular effective contact and only mentions Etudes although we are currently using three different management systems. The group agreed that the form needs to be updated/changed and gave the charge to Dan Hall and the Distance Learning Committee.

 

On a motion by K. Carlson, seconded by J. Rangel-Escobedo, and unanimously carried, the distance learning request for ENGL 2100 was approved to move forward to the May 11, 2015 District Board meeting.

The above update was removed from the agenda.

 

  1. TABLED ITEM:

 

  1. ART        1850       Web Site Production

 

This course remained on the agenda as a tabled item as it has lab hours and is approved to be taught online. Dan Hall reported that the Distance Learning Committee wasn’t in agreement regarding a policy restricting courses with lab components being distance learning approved. On a motion by M. Williams, seconded by T. Furman, and unanimously approved, the item was tabled until the August in-service meeting. Between now and August, the Distance Learning committee will establish criteria for offering lab courses online and present to Curriculum & General Education during the August in-service meeting.

  1. Two-Year Schedule Update

 

No update at this time. This item will remain on the May agenda.

 

  1. California Community College’s Data Element Dictionary definition of Lab

 

This was used during the discussion of ART 1850.

 

  1. 2015 General Education Approvals

 

Vicki noted that the General Education approvals came back. Several courses were approved, but the courses that were not approved are also listed.

 

  1. Curriculum Committee Self-evaluation

 

Per the Curriculum & General Education charter, an evaluation of the committee should be done every year. Vicki is working with Eric Bérubé in IR regarding the appropriate format. The committee will do a self-evaluation, and the evaluation will be sent to the College for feedback.
