– The G.E. Requirement update to the Humanities section was amended to include the new creative writing courses previously approved during the meeting as well as ART 1811. It was moved by D. Berry, seconded by D. Bogle and unanimously carried to approve the requirement update to move forward to the January 10th District Board meeting.

a.      Adding prerequisites of ENGL 1500 and MATH 1060 to Social Science courses— proposed by S. Eveland

 

  • Discussion of this item shifted towards the revision of ENGL 1500 and MATH 1060 as advisories instead of prerequisites and discussion ensued regarding the impact that higher prerequisites (if desired) might have on students. It was moved by Herder and seconded by G. Golling to move this item to the Academic Senate Committee for further discussion and research. The motion unanimously carried.

– It was moved by V. Herder and seconded by T. Thompson to approve the minutes from the September 10, 2012 Curriculum and General Education Meeting. The motion unanimously carried.

 

II.               Course Update(s)

 

a. ECEF 1501 Early Care, Education, and Family Studies Curriculum
b. ECEF 1571 Child Study and Assessment
c. ECEF 1590 Health, Safety, and Nutrition

 

– It was moved by K. Bandy and seconded by D. Berry to approve the above course updates (items a-c) as presented (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty). The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the November 8, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for approval.

 

d.   PSYC 2038     Gender Studies

– It was moved by D. Berry and seconded by K. Bandy to approve the above new course as presented (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty). The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the November 8, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for approval.

 

IV.                Tabled Items—Not before committee
