On a motion by P. Arvizu, seconded by T. Furman, and unanimously carried by all, the Curriculum and General Education minutes for November were approved.

Bandy, and unanimously carried by all, the above ENER courses were tabled. The Applied Technologies division will meet to clarify issues that came up during the meeting.

 

  1. PSYC 2050       Introduction to Biological Psychology

 

On a motion by T. Furman, seconded by G. Golling, and unanimously carried by all, the above PSYC 2050 course was approved to move forward to the January 11, 2017 District Board Meeting.

On a motion by K. Bandy, seconded by S. Eveland, and unanimously carried by all, the above program revision was tabled. The Applied Technologies division is in the process of revising ENER 1513 which is part of the Occupational Health and Safety degree. This will be re-submitted by the division.

On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by J. Rangel-Escobedo, and unanimously carried, the above ENER course was tabled for the December 12, Curriculum and General Education meeting. The Math and Sciences division needs time to review the minimum qualifications.

On a motion by J. Rangel-Escobedo, seconded by T. Furman, and unanimously carried, the above SPAN course was approved to move forward to the December 14, District Board meeting.

 

  1. Course Revision

 

  1. INTC 1100       Industrial Technology Capstone

 

After discussion it was decided to create a new IES course to serve as a capstone to the occupational safety and health program. On a motion by T. Furman, seconded by J. Rangel-Escobedo, and unanimously carried, the new course IES 2000 was approved. INTC 1100 will be sent to the division for further review.

The above two courses were tabled until the Curriculum and General Education meeting on December 12, 2016.

Rangel-Escobedo, seconded by J. Martinez, and unanimously carried, the above course was approved to move forward to the District Board Meeting held on December 14, 2016.

On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by J. Martinez, and unanimously carried, the rest of the Consent Items were approved to move forward to the District Board Meeting held on December 14, 2016.

  • Dual Enrollment

A preliminary discussion was had regarding dual enrollment and the role of the Curriculum and General Education Committee with the Academic Senate. Possible task force in the works, Curriculum and General Education Committee might establish the process for the Academic Senate. This topic will be discussed in Curriculum Committee meeting held on December 12, 2016.

Changes to the Charter Membership will be on the next agenda as a voting item. Changes include clarification of voting and non-voting members.

A task force made up of T. Cordova, S. Eveland, K. Carlson, V. Jacobi, and M. Williams will get together to revise the AP before the next Curriculum and General Education meeting.

 

  • Ethnic Study Courses

 

 

       No clear definition is found in Title 5. Vicki will bring additional information to the October meeting.

 

  • Gen Education

 

 

A task force made up of A. Anderson, T. Furman, V. Jacobi, S. Graham will review the requirements for General Education and see if our patterns align, as well as our local pattern.

 

  • CHEM 1520

 

 

A discussion was had regarding adding CHEM 1520 to the local pattern. Its pre-requisite is a General Education approved course so it is unnecessary to add.

 

  • Elementary Teacher Education AA-T

 

 

It was decided that K. Carlson and V. Jacobi will meet to discuss the English course. M. Mayfield and V. Jacobi will meet to discuss the Math course

On a motion by S. Eveland, seconded by T. Furman, and unanimously carried, the Curriculum & General Education minutes were approved.

 

  • DISCUSSION ITEMS:               
  • Curriculum Institute Update

Vicki and Danielle reported what was discussed that the Curriculum Institute over the summer. At the Institute much discussion was had regarding zero degrees, distance learning, common assessment tools which is replacing Accuplacer, and UC Pathways.

 

  • Information Literacy

 

    1.  

INCO is currently a local graduation requirement. The CSLO will be mapped in eluman as a general education assessment. Each division will let their peers know that they are to use the common INCO SLO in their courses.

 

  • Ethnic Study Proposal

 

 

Courses will be identified on our existing general education patterns that meet the Ethnic Studies requirement. The list of possible courses will be discussed at the September Curriculum & General Education meeting.

 

  • Clean up of Degrees

 

    1.  

Vicki plans to meet with each division to discuss cleaning up the degrees in our catalog.

 

  • Training New Curriculum Members

 

 

The training of new curriculum members wasn’t discussed, but the Curriculum & General Education committee charter regarding membership was discussed. This will be on the agenda in the September Curriculum & General Education meeting.

 

  • Courses in the Fall

 

    1.  

Faculty are encouraged to submit their course changes in the Fall, so programs can be reviewed in the Spring.
