Minutes of the Curriculum and General Education Committee Meeting Friday, January 18, 2013 12:10 p.m., Cougar Room

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: from the December 10, 2012 Curriculum & General Education Committee Meeting

 

On a motion by D. Bogle, seconded by K. Carlson and unanimously carried, the minutes from the December 10, 2012 Curriculum & General Education Committee meeting were approved.

 

II.               SOCIAL SCIENCES DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

 

1. ECEF 1571 Child Study and Assessment
2. SOC 2110 Minority Group Relations

 

On a motion by M. Hines, seconded by D. Berry and unanimously carried, the course updates to ECEF 1571 were approved to move forward to the February 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

On a motion by D. Berry, seconded by V. Garcia and unanimously carried, the updates to SOC 2110 (along with the change to include a missed outcome portion) were approved to move forward to the February 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

III.             LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Inactivations

Dr. Layne proposed that all inactivations be accepted as a block item. All members were in agreement. On a motion by D. Berry, seconded by M. Hines and unanimously carried, the inactivation of the above courses were approved to move forward to the February 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

IV.             APPLIED TECHNOLOGY DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

The above Court Reporting courses were grouped into a block item. Also, instead of being submitted as course updates, the committee agreed to submit these items as new courses instead of substantial changes as the expectations of the courses have changed. These courses will be reflected in their course numbers as being in the 1100 series instead of the 1000 series. On a motion by D. Bogle, seconded by V. Herder and unanimously carried, the course updates will become new courses and the current courses will be inactivated once the new courses are approved and built. These new courses will move forward to the February 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

B.                  Program Revisions

 

 

 

  1. S. & Certificate of Achievement – Court Reporting

 

On a motion by K. Bandy, seconded by M. Hines and unanimously carried, the revisions to both the A.S. degree and the certificate of achievement were approved to move forward to the February 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

V.               MATH & SCIENCE DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

 

1. PHED 1522 Exercising for Fitness
2. PHED 1523 Weight Lifting and Physical Fitness

4. PHED 1527 General Physical Education Activities

The Committee decided to approve all items in both A. and B. as one block item. On a motion by V. Garcia, seconded by D. Berry and unanimously carried, the course updates to items 1-11 in section A. and items 1-12 in section B. were approved to move forward to the February 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

  1. A. Liberal Arts with an Area of Emphasis: Health and Physical Education
  2. A. Physical Education

 

The Committee decided to combine the program revisions to the A.A. Liberal Arts Area of Emphasis: Health and Physical Education and the A. A. Physical Education degrees into one block item. On a motion by M. Hines, seconded by D. Bogle and unanimously carried, the program revisions were approved to move forward to the February 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

VI.             Tabled Item(s) – Not Before Committee

 

1. DSE 1501 Introduction to Developmental Disabilities (tabled on 1/12/12)
2. MUSC 1500 American Jazz (tabled 5/14/12)
     

 

The above items remained tabled.

 

VII.           Next Meeting

 

The next meeting of the Curriculum and General Education Meeting will be held Monday, February 11, 2013, pending proposed agenda items.
