Minutes of the Curriculum and General Education Committee Meeting Wednesday, November 13, 2013 12:10p.m., SCI-11

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: from the October 14, 2013 Curriculum & General Education Committee meeting

 

On a motion by V. Herder, seconded by K. Bandy, and unanimously carried, the minutes from the October 14, 2013 Curriculum & General Education Committee were approved.

 

II.                  LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION

 

A.                  Distance Learning

 

  1. ART 1811 Graphic Design

 

On a motion by M. Hines, seconded by K. Bandy, and unanimously carried, the distance learning request for ART 1811 was approved to move forward to the December 11, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

B.                  Course Updates

 

1. JRNL 1605 Reporting and News Writing
2. SPCH 1507 Group Discussion
3. SPCH 1511 Fundamentals of Speech
4. PHIL 1501 Introduction to Philosophy
5. SPAN 1502 Spanish for Healthcare Professionals II

 

 

The above Liberal Arts courses were grouped into a block item. On a motion by T. Thompson, and seconded by K. Carlson, and unanimously carried, the course updates above were approved to move forward to the December 11, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

III.             MATH & SCIENCE DIVISION

 

A.                  New Courses

 

1. ENGR 1510 Engineering Graphics and Introduction to Design with Lab
2. ENGR 1520 Statics
3. ENGR 1540 Introduction to Programming Concepts and
    Methodologies for Engineering with Lab
4. ENGR 2000 Circuit Analysis with Lab
5. ENGR 1530 Material Science and Engineering with Lab
6. ENGR 1550 Computer Programming and Hardware Interface Controls

 

The above Engineering courses were grouped into a block item. On a motion by S. Swenson, and seconded by K. Bandy, and unanimously carried, the new courses listed above were approved to move forward to the December 11, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

B.                  Course Updates

 

1. PHED 1539 Fundamentals of Baseball
2. PHED 1643 Sports Officiating
3. PHED 1644 Introduction to Physical Education
4. PHED 1646 Techniques in Athletic Taping I
5. PHED 1649 Beginning Athletic Training
6. PHED 2146 Techniques in Athletic Taping II
7. PHED 1724 Offseason Intercollegiate Softball
8. PHED 1735 Offseason Intercollegiate Baseball and Physical Fitness

 

The above Physical Education courses were grouped into a block item. On a motion by T. Thompson, and seconded by S. Eveland, and unanimously carried, the course updates listed above were approved to move forward to the December 11, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

C.                  Course Inactivations

 

  1. PHED 1537 Baseball/Softball Physical Fitness

 

 

On a motion by S. Swenson, seconded by S. Eveland, and unanimously carried, the course inactivation of PHED 1537 was approved to move forward to the December 11, 2013 District Board Meeting.

 

2. PHYS 2201 General Physics (Non-Calculus)
3. PHYS 2202 General Physics (Non-Calculus)

 

The above course inactivations of PHYS 2201 and PHYS 2202 were tabled until the December 9, 2013 Curriculum and General Education Meeting.

 

D.                 New Courses

 

1. BIOL 1510 Fundamentals of Biology with Lab
2. BIOL 2257 Human Physiology with Lab

 

The above new courses BIOL 1510 and BIOL 2257 were tabled until the December 9, 2013 Curriculum and General Education Meeting.

 

 

IV.             LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

 

  1. ENGL 1500 Composition and Reading

 

On a motion by M. Williams, seconded by S. Eveland, and unanimously carried, the course updates to English 1500 were tabled until the December 9, 2013 Curriculum and General Education Meeting.

 

 

V.      SOCIAL SCIENCE DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

 

1. ANTH 1501 Introduction to Biological Anthropology
2. ANTH 1512 Cultural Anthropology

 

The above course updates to ANTH 1501 and ANTH 1512 were tabled until the December 9, 2013 Curriculum and General Education Meeting.

 

B.                  Addition to General Education

 

  1. RECR 1510 Introduction to Recreation and Leisure Service

 

 

The above addition to General Education was tabled until the December 9, 2013 Curriculum and General Education Meeting.

 

VI.                APPLIED TECHNOLOGY DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

 

1. CTRP 1010 Beginning Machine Shorthand Theory and Lab
2. CTRP 1250 Certified Shorthand Reporter Preparation

 

The above course updates to CTRP 1010 and CTRP 1250 were tabled until the December 9, 2013 Curriculum and General Education Meeting.

 

 

VII.           DISCUSSION ITEMS

 

A.      Submission of SLOs concurrently with CORs for new courses and course updates.

 

  1. Update: ADMJ old and new courses- repeating and using “formerly” language. This was discussed in the Catalog Workgroup meeting that was held on September 10th where the ADMJ CORs were reviewed and agreed upon consensus that the “formerly” statement be removed from the appropriate ADMJ courses. The ADMJ CORs were resubmitted and approved by the Chancellor’s

 

  1. General Education Matrix

 

The above discussion items are to be discussed at the December Curriculum and General Education Meeting.
