Minutes of the Curriculum and General Education Committee Meeting Monday, October 14, 2013 12:10 p.m., Cougar Room

 

Members Present:      K. Bandy, D. Bogle, K. Carlson, S. Eastman, G. Golling, V. Herder, M. Hines,

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: from the September 9, 2013 Curriculum & General Education Committee meeting

 

On a motion by T. Thompson, seconded by M. Hines and unanimously carried, the minutes from the September 9, 2013 Curriculum & General Education Committee were approved.

 

II.               APPLIED TECHNOLOGY DIVISION

 

A.                  New Courses

 

  1. PETC 1105 Coiled Tubing for Supervisors

 

On a motion by M. Hines, and seconded by V. Herder and unanimously carried, the new course PETC 1105 was approved to move forward to the November 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

B.                  Distance Learning

 

1. IES 1053 Principles of Ergonomics
2. IES 1067 Guide to Industrial Hygiene

 

On a motion by S. Swenson, and seconded by T. Thompson and unanimously carried, the course updates to IES 1053 and IES 1067 were approved to move forward to the November 13, 2013 District Board Meeting.

 

C.                  New Local Certificates

 

 

 

1.                  Petroleum Technology Well Control & Drilling Certificate I

  1. Petroleum Technology Well Control & Drilling Certificate II
  2. Petroleum Technology Well Control & Drilling Certificate III
  3. Petroleum Technology Well Control & Drilling Certificate IV
  4. Petroleum Technology Well Control & Drilling Certificate V

 

On a motion by S. Swenson, and seconded by M. Hines and unanimously carried, the new local certificates Petroleum Technology Well Control & Drilling Certificates I-V were approved to move forward to the November 13, 2013 District Board Meeting.

 

III.             LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

 

  1. ENGL 1500 Composition and Reading

 

On a motion by K. Bandy, seconded by D. Bogle and opposed by S. Swenson, the course updates to English 1500 were tabled.

 

2. JRNL 1605 Reporting and News Writing
3. SPCH 1507 Group Discussion
4. SPCH 1511 Fundamentals of Speech
5. PHIL 1501 Introduction to Philosophy
6. SPAN 1502 Spanish for Healthcare Professionals II

 

The above course updates are tabled until the November Curriculum and General Education committee meeting.

 

IV.             MATH & SCIENCE DIVISION

 

A.                  Course Updates

 

1. PHED 1724 Offseason Intercollegiate Softball
2. PHED 1735 Offseason Intercollegiate Baseball and Physical Fitness

 

The above course updates are tabled until the November Curriculum and General Education committee meeting.

 

B.                  New Courses

 

  1. ENGR 1500 Introduction to Engineering

 

 

The Curriculum and General Education Committee decided to hold a vote on ENGR 1500 in order for the course to be offered in Spring 2014. On a motion by V. Herder, seconded by M. Hines, and unanimously carried, the course ENGR 1500 was approved to move forward to the November 13, 2013 District Board meeting.

 

2. BIOL 1510 Fundamentals of Biology with Lab
3. BIOL 2257 Human Physiology with Lab

 

The above course updates are tabled until the November Curriculum and General Education committee meeting.

 

C.                  Course Inactivations

 

1. PHED 1537 Baseball/Softball Physical Fitness
2. PHYS 2201 General Physics (Non-Calculus)
3. PHYS 2202 General Physics (Non-Calculus)

 

The above course updates are are tabled until the November Curriculum and General Education committee meeting.

 

V.               DISCUSSION ITEMS

 

A.      Submission of SLOs concurrently with CORs for new courses and course updates.

 

  1. Update: ADMJ old and new courses- repeating and using “formerly” language. This was discussed in the Catalog Workgroup meeting that was held on September 10th where the ADMJ CORs were reviewed and agreed upon consensus that the “formerly” statement be removed from the appropriate ADMJ courses. The ADMJ CORs were resubmitted and approved by the Chancellor’s

VI.             NEXT MEETING

 

The next meeting of the Curriculum and General Education Meeting is TBD due to the Veteran’s Day holiday.
