I.                 Approval of Minutes

 

Minutes of the May 14, 2012 Curriculum and General Education Committee Meeting

 

– It was moved by D. Bogle and seconded by S. Eveland to approve the minutes from the May 14, 2012 Curriculum and General Education Meeting. The motion unanimously carried.

 

II.               Course Update(s)

 

a.      CJA 1501        Introduction to the Administration of Justice

 

  • It was moved by S. Swenson and seconded by V. Herder to approve the above course update (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty). The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the October 11, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for

 

b.      DNTL 2023     Patient Management and Geriatrics

 

  • It was moved by M. Hines and seconded by D. Berry to approve the above course update (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty).The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the October 11, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for approval. Due to the proposed increase in unit value, the course will subsequently be listed as DNTL 2025 pending the approval of the Chancellor’s

  • It was moved by D. Berry and seconded by D. Bogle to approve the above course update (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty). The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the October 11, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for

 

d.      SOC 2120       American Social Problems

 

  • It was moved by V. Herder and seconded by G. Golling to approve the above course update (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty). The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the October 11, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for

 

III.             Course(s) for Distance Learning

 

a. BUSN 1601 Beginning Keyboarding
b. BUSN 1602 Beginning Keyboarding
c. BUSN 1603 Beginning Keyboarding
d. BUSN 2001 Intermediate Keyboarding
e. BUSN 2002 Intermediate Keyboarding
f. BUSN 2003 Intermediate Keyboarding

 

– It was moved by V. Herder and seconded by M. Hines to approve the request of the above courses for distance learning (items a-f) (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty). The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the October 11, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for approval.

 

IV.             Program Revisions

 

a.      AS Dental Hygiene

 

  • It was moved by B. McMurray and seconded by S. Eveland to approve the above program revisions (reviewed and approved previously by department faculty).

The motion unanimously carried and will be placed as an agenda item on the October 11, 2012 District Board of Trustees’ meeting for approval.

V.                  Discussion Items

 

a.      Adding prerequisites of ENGL 1500 and MATH 1060 to Social Science courses— proposed by S. Eveland

 

  • Discussion of this item shifted towards the revision of ENGL 1500 and MATH 1060 as advisories instead of prerequisites and discussion ensued regarding the impact that higher prerequisites (if desired) might have on students. It was moved by Herder and seconded by G. Golling to move this item to the Academic Senate Committee for further discussion and research. The motion unanimously carried.

 

VI.                Tabled Items—Not before committee

 

a. DSE 1501 Introduction to Developmental Disabilities (tabled on 1/12/12)
b. ART 1545 Chicano/a Art (tabled 5/14/12)
c. MUSC 1500 American Jazz (tabled 5/14/12)

 

– The above items remained  tabled.
