Minutes of the Curriculum and General Education Committee Meeting

Monday March 13, 2017, 12:10 p.m., in the Cougar Room

The next meeting of the Curriculum and General Education Committee will be held on Monday March 13, 2017 from 12:10-1:30pm in the Cougar Room.

 

AGENDA

 

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: From the February 13, 2017 Curriculum & General Education meeting

On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by M. Martinez, and unanimously carried by all, the February 13 Curriculum and General Education minutes were approved.

 

  1. Tabled from the February Curriculum Meeting:

New Course:

Science and Mathematics:

 

  1. BIOL      2265      Human Pathophysiology

The above course was tabled until April’s C & GE. The group would like a letter from CSUB regarding articulation. They want to be sure CSUB will accept this course as an upper division course. M. Mayfield will take it back to the division.

 

  • CONSENT ITEMS:

        2. SOC        1510       Introduction to Sociology
        3. SOC        2141       Sociology of Marriage
        4. WELD   1500       Welding Processes

 

  1. Course Revisions:

On a motion by S. Eveland, seconded by T. Furman, and unanimously carried by all, the above consent items were approved to move forward to the April 12 District Board meeting. A standardized materials list will be added to WELD 1500.

 

  1. NEW BUSINESS ITEMS

  1. STSU     1500      Strategies for College and Life Management

On a motion by S. Eveland, seconded by K. Carlson, and unanimously carried by all, the above consent items were approved to move forward to the April 12 District Board meeting.

 

Course Revisions:

Applied Technologies:

 

        1. WELD    1040       Shielded Metal Arc Welding
        2. WELD    1010       Gas Metal Arc Welding and Flux Core Arc Welding
        3. WELD    1030       Pipe Welding
        4. WELD    1020       Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

The above WELD courses have been tabled until April 17’s C & GE meeting. They will be returned to the division for minor corrections. They will add an extensive lab portion, as well as a standardized materials list. They will be submitted as New courses.

 

  • DISCUSSION ITEMS

  • Biology Courses

 

The group discussed the issues with some of the recently approved Science and Math degrees. The division will clean up COR’s within the degrees to help solve said issues.

 

  • AA-T Kinesiology

 

The above degree was discussed. It was suggested that some of the catalog language be revised. There are revisions needed in the Movement-Based course section.

 

  • Dual Enrollment/C-CAP Agreement

 

The Dual Enrollment/C-CAP Agreement has been approved. They will begin by offering 2 courses, WELD 1500 in Fall 2017, INTC 1000 in Spring 2018. A. Cordova will continue working with Dual Enrollment as well as Senate Committee in order to keep the group informed.

 

  • AP 4021 – Program Discontinuation

 

  1. Eveland presented the group with a draft of the revisions made to the Program Discontinuation policy. The group discussed the revisions. No final decision has been made. It will come back in April.

 

  • AA-T Elementary Teacher Education

 

Division chairs have talked about the possibility of adding MATH and ENGL courses to finalize the degree. No action has been taken by the divisions. They will consider preparing the necessary courses.
