2.        Senate discussion regarding draft CTE experience examples/criteria                      DISC/ACTION

The draft was approved by Senate this month and will now go to Board for approval since it’s a mutually agreed upon document. After approval, the document should be available on the Senate and HR websites and be updated on an annual review cycle.

3.        Environmental Health and Safety Proposal-Terry Davis                                        DISC/ACTION

There will be a follow-up zoom meeting on Friday, March 17th at 9:30 with Kanoe, Vicki, Darcy, Kristi, Terry, and Chad (adjunct) to further discuss OSH/Energy programs, proposals, and next steps. The committee is still concerned on student numbers to support these programs, especially if splitting the proposals into two programs. Making things as seamless as possible for the students is of interest, such as offering all classes at Taft College or WESTEC, not both campuses; the committee expressed this would be very helpful.

  1. 2022-2023 Committee Goals DISC/ACTION

  • Spring Goal: Provide general feedback related to CTE data and program review processes.

The committee reviewed several documents, shared by Sharyn via email, that aligned with the committee’s fall goal of supporting CTE Advisory Committees processes and practices including the CTE Advisory Handbook, a document discussing the benefits of joining an advisory committee, templates for agenda and minutes, and an Employee Inquiry Guide. All are great documents that can provide guidance and streamline processes for CTE Advisory Committees.

This semester, we will focus on our spring goal provided above. The committee discussed what feedback was of interest relating to CTE data and the program review processes. The committee discussed data and the DEI lens, and the need for disaggregated data to support this. In the next meeting, the committee will review CTE comprehensive program reviews turned in during the last cycle, and see if any broad recommendations can be made, as well as possible advocacy for some programs that aren’t being funded.

Other

(Items of general interest relevant to the committee; no action)

Vicki expressed concerns, as co-chair of the Curriculum Committee, regarding the origin of some of the programs being recommended, such as Medical Assisting and Paralegal. Is the interest coming from the faculty? Law, Public Policy, and Society…is paralegal competing with this degree? Is Medical Assisting suitable with no clinical requirements? Where is the money to sustain the programs? Program development falls under the 10+1 of the Academic Senate, and reviewing all programs is important, especially if not originated within the divisions.
