{"id":779,"date":"2008-03-14T15:35:49","date_gmt":"2008-03-14T15:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ct-test-wp.taftcollege.edu\/itc\/?p=58"},"modified":"2008-03-14T15:35:49","modified_gmt":"2008-03-14T15:35:49","slug":"march-14-2008-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/committees.taftcollege.edu\/itc\/march-14-2008-minutes\/","title":{"rendered":"March 14, 2008 Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Information Technology <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">MEETING MINUTES<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Friday, March 14, 2008<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">1:00 pm T-5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Members Present: <\/strong>Adrian Agundez, Dave Berry, Mimi Collins, Rick Garcia, Val Garcia, Mark Gibson, Brian Jean, Brock McMurray, Chad Mickelberry, Tiffany Rowden, Henry Yong.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recorder: <\/strong>Michaela Young<\/p>\n<p>Meeting start: 2:10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agenda: <\/strong>Tech Update<\/p>\n<p>E-mail for the future<\/p>\n<p>First Class<\/p>\n<p>Luminis e-mail<\/p>\n<p>What are the criteria <strong><u>Updates <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dorm wireless completed<\/li>\n<li>Board approved ACS improvement (device manager) \u2013 wireless zones on campus<\/li>\n<li>Dorm wireless in Library; new equipment should be delivered in May<\/li>\n<li>All new desktops in Library for students<\/li>\n<li>\u201cTouchNet\u201d payment gateway is in progress; eventually students will be able to pay on-line.<\/li>\n<li>Plans to include other areas of the campus (bookstore) for online pay in the future.<\/li>\n<li>On-going progress with Banner projects still positive, but a lot of hard work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>E-Mail for the Future of TC <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Review of First Class:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tiffany likes to see history information if recipient of e-mail ( reads, saves or deletes)<\/li>\n<li>Option to have client <u>and <\/u>web-based in First Class is good \u2013 web-based e-mail is important when you are on the road<\/li>\n<li>Need to keep conferences to be able to post announcements to everyone, with the ability to restrict some of the conferences by limiting contributors<\/li>\n<li>Ricardo Garcia presented Luminis Portal, Mail and Calendaring:<\/li>\n<li>A positive aspect is unlimited number of accounts making it more cost effective. Luminis, like other web-based e-mails has calendar, scheduling, and ability to invite other users.<\/li>\n<li>Val Garcia noted the district would probably still keep SARS, as it has more options (e.g. notes, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Ricardo mentioned Luminis still has lots of errors, will probably be used primarily for students<\/li>\n<li>Ricardo pointed out that Chad had created Help-videos for Luminis and everyone should find them very useful in instructing the user how to navigate.<\/li>\n<li>Adrian mentioned that Luminis is a living product and we can make adjustments as we go.<\/li>\n<li>Ricardo showed how the layout can be customized by the user \u2013 some things will be fixed, however.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Create Criteria of what we want:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0POP3 cost-effective; gives users option of client<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Many want mobile phone continuity<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Web based email has to be reliable, and easy to use<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Want to see off-line browsing, PDA\u2019s, web-based e-mail, open-sourced might be reasonable for us.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(definition of \u201copen-source\u201d: open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit); disadvantage is that it does not come with support \u2013 have to use forums or buy support packages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research What is Out There: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark will create a list of features that Adrian will publish to the school asking them to rate the most to least important features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Discussion on Quicktime versus WindowsMedia at next meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Next Meeting <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The next IT Committee meeting will be Friday, April 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in T6.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Adjournment <\/u><\/strong><strong>M<\/strong>eeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ct-test-wp.taftcollege.edu\/itc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2015\/06\/031408-Minutes.pdf\" class=\"mtli_attachment mtli_pdf\">031408-Minutes<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Information Technology  MEETING MINUTES Friday, March 14, 2008 1:00 pm T-5 Members Present: Adrian Agundez, Dave Berry, Mimi Collins, Rick Garcia, Val Garcia, Mark Gibson, Brian Jean, Brock McMurray, Chad Mickelberry, Tiffany Rowden, Henry Yong.
